It seemed like a peaceful day at Discovery Base, but that would soon change.  I sat in mine and Tyler's office, remaining my real age for today.  Suddenly the teleporter whirred to life and my old friend Gamma stepped into the room.

"Hey Austin, long time no see," Gamma remarked.  I stood, greeting him with a brohug.

"Yeah; glad you could make it, Gamma," I responded, "Shall we head to the gym for our scheduled sparring session?"

"Anxious to get things over with already?" Gamma questioned, "Okay."  We exited the office, turning right and heading down the hall.  Suddenly my aura sensors picked up something big, so I stopped and looked warily around.  "Everything alright?"

"No; I sense something big coming this way..." I replied.  Suddenly the wall was blasted apart just in front of us, and Pokextinction drones flooded in.

"Extinctionists!" Gamma cried, pulling out his custom weapons.

"Will they ever learn?" I questioned aloud.  I sent out a powerful Confuse Ray attack, reducing the assault to a mob stumbling over itself.  Gamma began picking the enemies off one by one, leaving brains splattered all over the place.  I unleashed aura spheres and dark energy balls into the mob, mowing down enemies.  Soon a new wave came in, and Gamma was forced to pull out the big gun: a large machine gun strapped to his back.

"Rot in hell!" he cried, mowing down row after row of troops.  Soon the extinctionist forces began to retreat thanks to the heavy losses.

"Running away won't help! We'll just hit you in your asses!" I yelled, firing more attacks.  Gamma grabbed my shoulder and stopped me.

"Enough, Austin. Don't sink to their level," he remarked.  I took a deep breath, calming my nerves.

"Sorry, it's just annoying fending off assaults so damn often. I wish we could wipe our location off the extinctionist radar..." I responded sadly.  Gamma may as well have had a light bulb turn on above his head.

"Maybe we can! Let me call Strike; she's a master at hacking," he replied.  I allowed him to do so, grabbing a few healing items for us in the meantime.  After a while, he hung up and turned to me.  "Strike just hacked into every extinctionist base in the state and wiped their hard drives. You should be in the clear for now," Gamma announced.

"Great! Thanks man, I owe you one," I replied.

"I'll hold you to that," Gamma retorted, "Can we spar now?"

"Of course," I responded.  We headed down to the gym to begin our battle.  The match was heated right from the beginning, with Gamma using a lot of Dragon attacks.  Neither of us had a type advantage, so all our attacks dealt their normal amount of damage.  We adapted by sticking to moves that gave that were boosted by the STAB effect, which dealt slightly more.  I only attempted Confuse Ray once, and Gamma's implants somehow blocked the move's effects.  This was truly an even matchup.

As far as our stats were concerned, Gamma had me bested greatly in attack, and somewhat in speed.  Our special attacks were even, though, and I trumped him in HP and both kinds of defense.  Thus, while I couldn't deal as much damage, I could take a lot more.  Soon we both seemed to be on our last legs, breathing heavily as we stared each other down.

"You... want to... call it... a draw...?" I huffed.  Gamma nodded.

"Good fight, my friend," he responded.  We helped each other over to the healing station, which acted like a Pokemon center in the games.  Back in prime condition, we grabbed lunch together before returning to my office.

"Thanks again for what you did earlier; it was great seeing you, Gamma," I remarked.

"No problem, Austin. You'll have to drop by my base some time and meet my family," Gamma responded.  I smiled warmly at the suggestion.

"I'd sure enjoy that, Gamma. I'll let you know when I'm available," I replied.  Gamma nodded and stepped into the teleporter.

"See you around," he remarked, smiling.

"See you," I replied.  The teleporter activated, and Gamma vanished from sight.  I heaved a sigh and slumped tiredly down into my chair.  Perhaps it was time for a nap...
